Livestock and Butchery

We hope that your progress through this website has shown our individual hands-on approach and desire to offer great traditional home-cooked food prepared using the best local ingredients.

Our own flock of Suffolk and Rydale SheepAs part of this effort we established our own flock of Suffolk and Rydale sheep as well as a small Dexter herd to provide meat for the table. As demand grew from the restaurant, as well as from customers asking us to supply them with meat and game to use at home, we linked up with local farmers and suppliers to source additional supplies.


This culminated in the opening of a butcher’s shop in 2010 in an outbuilding in the pub grounds. [read Daily Express article]

We now buy the very best quality beef, lamb, pork, poultry, venison, game and wild boar direct which allows us to control the hanging times and the butchery. We make our own sausages and beef burgers as well as home-cured smoked and black treacle bacon.

In addition we sell a great selection of proper home-made pies, Wellingtons, casseroles, curries and soups to cook off at home.

The shop opens every Friday and Saturday mornings from 9am to 12 noon, however, please do call outside these hours to place an order or to arrange a pick-up time to suit.

These great home-made meals can be bought in the shop or can be ordered direct by phone, in the next couple of months we will have a dedicated website for this venture under our ‘Monty Duke’ brand at
